Traffic Smash: Racer's Diary Android App Review
Have you ever wanted to race endlessly without having to deal with law enforcement? Ever wanted to do just that with your choice of car type, car color and even terrain. If you have the thirst for racing on the open road but don't want to deal with the possiblity of being pulled over by the authorities or the spike in car insurance, Traffic Smash: Racer's Diary gives you that opportunity with lots of options to boot.
Hit The Road Jack
Traffic Smash: Racer's Diary is an endless racing game with lots of curvy roads, packs of cars acting as obstacles and power ups to make you fly through boards with ease. The startup screen gives you the choice of accessing the built in tutorial, rating the game or getting in the race. The tutorial gives a basic overview over the car controls. Once you've finished the tutorial, clicking on "Race" takes you to the garage where you can choose from a wide selection of cars. Included Vehicles are compact cars, sports cars, pickup trucks and sedans among others. Only one car comes stock while the others require coins for purchase. These coins can be acquired through racking up points during racing and via in-app purchases. From there, you can use the palette tool to choose the color of your car. Nice touch.
Once you select your vehicle, it's off to the races. You can select from one of three modes. There's one-way, two-way, and time. Time puts you against the clock, while one way puts you in the typical racing scenario. There you race against other cars traveling in the same direction as you. The most interesting mode was two-way where you race against cars traveling in either direction. We found this to be the most challenging. Power ups such as the lightning rod allow you race at turbo speed which is a lot of fun but will keep you on your toes. Remember to brake as you see fit.
Verdict
We enjoyed Traffic Smash. While it resembles many of the racing games on the market, the color pallete and three game modes gives it enough variety that even without the in app purchases, you will find yourself satisfied. We were. Add to that the fact that sideswiping cars doesn't end your run gives you more chances at keeping the momentum going. Head on collisions will of course take you out of the game. Check out Traffic Smash. It's a great time killer and has enough packed in it to make it a fun and challenging mobile affair.
