e-CAL Calendar Android App Review

A computer or device manufacturer could include several hundred thorough gold standard apps on their shipped units and the public would still demand better, more progressive features. It’s the reason why macros can be designed for big league software. Your smartphone and tablet are no exception. The guys over E-Sites have released a Calendar app which promises that you will thumb over your stock Calendar app for as long as you use their app.
E-What?
Loading up E-Cal brings what you would expect from most calendar and scheduling apps. The current date is displayed with time ranging from 12 AM to 11:30 PM. You can pinch and zoom to isolate a specific time period. No time is tapable unless an item has been created for its respective slot.
It should be pointed out that you should register with this app to utilize all of its features. Normally we dislike having to register with any app, but kudos to the developer for including the ability to NOT have to register with a social media account like Facebook or Twitter. You can create an independent account. Create a username and password and you will be ready to go.
Once set up, clicking on the calendar icon in the top left corner will reveal your calendar, plus a link to the Calendar store (more on that later).
Make The Appointment
Creating an item (we will refer to an event, appointment, or note as an “item”) is as simple as tapping on the “+” icon near the top right corner of the display. From there, you can title your item, enter a location, set whether the item is an all-day affair, or something you will be doing at a specific time.
You can also enter travel time, which calendar it ends up in, repeat and alert. Alert lets you choose whether to be alerted the day of, five minutes before, fifteen minutes before and so on. You have further customization options by way of setting a custom color to appear for that item (default is teal), add attachments (pictures or files), and leave notes.
Leaving an attachment is a pretty big deal. It means if you have that big paper, presentation, prescription or something important, it will be available to you the minute that time slot is a reality. Kudos to the developer for including that as a feature.
Expand
What really gives e-CAL the wow factor is the Calendar Store. If you are looking for calendars that are based around religion, sports, finance, the holidays, moon phases, numbers, sunset/sunrise and more, you will find them all at the Calendar store. For example, in the Finance section, tapping on PSI gives you Calendars with names such as “Altri Sgps” to “EDP”. Religion has everything from Buddhism to Jainism. Most calendars are $1.37.
Verdict
There are too many features to list in a short review, but even with what was just described; it is hard to understand why this app is free. Yes, we said it, free! As mentioned before, this app is miles ahead of the stock Android Calendar app. The interface is sleek, modern and easy to get around. The feature set is enormous, and with the calendar store, you have a multitude of options. This is a 5 star app.
