The ship has finally sailed in. After a few years of empty promises, Sprint has finally deployed 4G LTE to the largest metropolis in the United States; though not entirely.
According to sources, Sprint will make their big announcement in a few days on July 30th that the boroughs of The Bronx and Brooklyn will have full 4G LTE service throughout the boroughs. The remaining three boroughs, Queens, Manhattan and Staten Island will remain stuck with slower connections. For a lot of New Yorkers, that fact is very nerve-racking, especially considering that Manhattan is the economic heart of the entire city.
Sprint claims that the rest of New York City would go online within the coming months. It reflects the complexities of setting up and enabling networks in large cities. All of this after the formal announcement in September 2012 (after months of speculation) that New York City would be one of 100 cities that would switch to 4G LTE during 2013. Sprint also has plans to outfit Subway stations throughout the five boroughs and is set to release its first Windows Phone devices this fall.
