Who out there doesn't like a game set in medieval times? For many, memories of watching movies such as a Robin Hood, playing classic video games like Zelda or just cracking open a history books has many people like myself interested in the period.

While there are many reasons why very few would actually want to live during the period, the more interesting things, namely battle, the language and mystery of the unknown keeps many salivating and fantasizing. Elements Of Senses for Android puts a different spin on the genre with exploration at the core of its gameplay.

Explore!

Most games in a medieval setting focus on knights, swords and battle. Elements Of Senses does not. The objective is to make your way through six levels each pertaining to a specific "sense". To beat a level, you must find six "elements". How do you find them? You better have time as you have to look for them.

Elements Of Senses is all about exploring uncharted territory

Game play is straight forward. There are no tricks. Simply tap on the screen to walk around. Eventually you will run into a character who will give you a direct or indirect clue. As an example, one of the first characters stands in front of a tavern and tells you that it's a private party. Your first clue is there.

You'd need to find another way to get into the tavern so you can continue on with your exploration. In our case, we were able to find an opening in the fence which surrounded the tavern so we wouldn't have to go through the guy. Go figure

Elements

Continuing with our first level experiences, once we were in the tavern, which was quite noisy and active, a table covered end to end with food caught our attention. Once we went up to it, our character began to interact with it, taking each delectable and adding it to the element check boxes. In just one place, we were able to pick up several element. This is how the game works. You explore your level and locate elements. Once you rack up six, you're good to go! You win! On to the next level.

Six levels with six elements each to locate. Hints can point you in the right direction

The first level focuses on the sense of taste. The second deals with water. The third deals with fire and so on. The same approach applies. It's up to you to locate those elements.

Verdict

We found this game interesting as it wasn't your typical knights with swords affair. The graphics were above average and pretty fluid, even on the older tablet we tested it on.

Game play reminded us of classic Oregon trail styled games with better, more updated graphics. If there is an explorer in you somewhere and you love games with a middle ages theme, then Elements Of Senses is worth your time. You can download it here
