GiveMeApps Rating: 5 out of 5
Pros:
  • Unbelievable amount of customization
  • Input types cover text to drawing
Cons:
  • Costs too little (hard to believe it's free)
  • Could use more color schemes (nitpicking here)

Mobile productivity apps have to some degree always been accused of lagging behind their desktop counterparts and for good reason - the amount of processing power on mobile devices is still south of desktop and laptop territory. With that power gap narrowing and the number of devices being used continues to grow exponentially, the functionality of "serious" mobile apps are increasing daily with powerful new releases from app developers. KleverNote enters the database arena as a formidable competitor to long established desktop based database apps.

When you fire up KleverNote, two options appear on screen - "Create A Template" and "Tap For Help". Tapping on the former allows you to either create a template from scratch or use the dozens of included presets. The amount of templates show off the level of customization KleverNote has to offer (more on this later). Everything from Action Item Task, Diet Log, Customer Profiles, Expenses Tracking, Work Order, Project Tracker are present. More traditional vanilla databases such as Address Book and Diary can also be found in the gallery. As expected, the template titles give insight into the type of data you can collect, track and organize.

KleverNote gives you 13 types of fields to incorporate into your database

This is all great, but the excitement starts when you create your own databases from scratch. You can create databases for just about anything and set them up to accept just about any type of input. To create a database, you tap on "Create A Template". From there, you are taken to the template window. You are asked to enter a title for the database and to choose a color scheme. Even better, you can set the template to send reminders. This is useful for diaries or databases which require timely input. You may set your reminder to send you a notification every Monday to enter in Football stats.

Things get really interesting when you being adding input fields to your database. The "Fields" section of the Template window lets you add dozens of field types including everything from lists, text, multi-text, photos, videos and even drawing. By simply pressing the plus icons, you can add as many of these fields as you like. Fields can have names and default text. In most instances, the data can be formatted. If you choose "Numbers" or "Email" for example, those fields will only allow those types of data to be inputted.Just for kicks, we created a car database and included a field for us to draw the car we saw. See our video below to view the process.

We had to give this app a five star rating because of its customization options and flexibility. Your databases can be simple or as complex as you want them to be. If all of the features we mentioned weren't enough, you can even sync your databases with Google Sheets and Evernote if you opt for the full version. Even without that capability, for the price of free, you're getting one heck of a deal. While the app is missing the macros and pro features you would expect from a more established app, for the mobile word, Klevernote packs a powerful punch.
